Sand Dollars was directed by Israel Cárdenas and Laura Amelia Guzmán. Starring Geraldine Chapline, Yanet Mojica, and Ricardo Ariel Toribio, it's a Spanish drama that shows Dominican resident, Noeli’s (Mojica) relationship with her older, moneyed client, Anne (Chaplin). It  intersects a number of broader issues: tourism’s clash with local hierarchy, socioeconomic class differences, and identity crises.

 

Sand Dollars won Best Actress (at the 2014 Chicago International and Havana Film Festivals) and Best Sound (Cine Ceará – National Cinema Festival 2014).
